Barry painted in a spacious studio at his passive solar cedar home at the edge of the woods overlooking the scenic Frederick City Watershed. Barry grew up at the foot of the Catoctin Mountains hiking, fishing, and photographing in and around Frederick County. He enjoyed capturing on paper the rustic old farms and country landscapes, as well as many of Frederick’s historic landmarks and small towns.

Barry exhibited in numerous museum and gallery shows. His paintings and prints are in private and corporate collections in over forty states and several countries. His work is also in the collection of former Vice President and Mrs. Dan Quayle. He was a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and several other art organizations.

In 1983, Barry was among ten Maryland artists selected by the Maryland State Arts Council for a juried cultural exchange exhibition which toured several Japanese cities. The Japanese government selected one of Barry’s watercolors for its permanent collection. In 1989, the American Heart Association selected three of Barry’s watercolors for its holiday greeting card fundraiser. His artwork has also appeared on the cover of the Frederick County Tourism Guide and the Frederick Magazine. In 1994, Barry was one of six artists selected by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce for their holiday card fundraiser. “Holiday Reflection,” a water color, was selected by the Holiday Committee as the winner of the 1994 official Frederick poster.
